





On 8 January 2026, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) had the honor of welcoming a delegation from the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Chennai, Republic of India, led by Mr. Panutaj Rasmidatta, Consul, together with representatives from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), one of India’s leading institutions of higher education led by Dr. Balaji Srinivasan, Professor, Department Data Science and Artificial Intelligence and Ms. Priya Venkat, Senior project manager (University relations) Global Engagement.
The delegation was formally received by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chawin Chantharasenawong, Vice President for Internationalization of KMUTT, accompanied by university executives and faculty representatives from relevant academic disciplines. The visit reflected the shared commitment of both sides to strengthening international academic engagement and fostering meaningful institutional partnerships.
During the visit, discussions focused on exploring potential areas of academic and research collaboration between KMUTT and IIT Madras. Key topics included opportunities for student and faculty exchanges, joint research initiatives, and other forms of academic cooperation in mutually relevant fields. The delegation also engaged in dialogue with KMUTT faculty members to gain a deeper understanding of the university’s academic strengths, research capabilities, and internationalization strategies.
Importantly, this meeting represented a significant step toward KMUTT’s engagement in initiatives aligned with the BRICS framework, supporting the university’s strategic goal of expanding cooperation with institutions in BRICS member countries. The discussions contributed to laying the groundwork for KMUTT’s potential participation in academic and research programs under the BRICS-related collaboration platforms.
This visit marked an important milestone in strengthening Thailand–India academic relations and reaffirmed KMUTT’s commitment to advancing its internationalization agenda through partnerships with leading global institutions. Both parties expressed strong interest in continuing discussions and working collaboratively to develop concrete initiatives that will contribute to academic excellence, innovation, and sustainable international cooperation in the future.
