On 26-27 September 2024, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MOHESI) organized the 2024 Student Development Academic Seminar “Empowering Students for Sustainable Development: Integrating SDGs in Thai Higher Education” on the 4th floor of Centara Life Hotel, Government Complex and Convention Center, Chaeng Watthana.
King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) has presented its work and been considered to receive 3 awards as follows:
1. Outstanding Student Development Work in the field of Student Development Model/Process: “Work Title: KMUTT101 Welcoming Activities for New Students Pre (P.A.R.E) The First-Year Experience Enrichment Program”, which is a project that receives cooperation from many agencies both inside and outside the university in accordance with the KSD360 guidelines, such as KMUTT Ratchaburi Educational Area, Bang Khun Thian Educational Area, KX, MOVE Research Center, EESH, ,Strategic Communication and Marketing Unit, benefits and property utilization unit, KMUTT Alumni Association, Faculties , Departments, Student Clubs and Student Unions include many other related agencies.
2. Outstanding award for SDG integration with student development, “SoCHAMP4Sochange” project by a group of over 50 students from 5 faculties and 11 departments, under the consultation of the Center for Promotion and Support of the Royal Project Foundation and Royal Initiative Projects, together with the Office of Student Affairs. The project focuses on allowing students to learn in real-world work areas (Social Lab), including learning about local lifestyles, understanding diversity, and learning to adapt to people. This time, there were 10 students from various fields/departments participating. The activity aims to promote and develop students to become “Sustainability Change Agents”. In the next phase of operations, all relevant groups will jointly promote, support, and provide a platform for students to have the opportunity to develop themselves by participating in/creating projects to develop communities, society, children, and youth in remote areas, according to their appropriate abilities and abilities.
3. Honorable Mention Award for Integrating SDGs with Student Development “Innovation for KMUTT Sustainability: Innovation Contest Project to Promote Sustainability of KMUTT”, a collaboration between the Office of Student Affairs, Office of Building and Ground Management, Energy Environment Safety and Health (EESH), Hatch, Graduate School of Management and Innovation (GMI), and Field Robotics Institute (FIBO).
In addition, KMUTT also presented the results of student and learner development through various activities and projects that are in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in SDG 1: No poverty, such as promoting careers for disabled people in Ban Nang Oi, Sakon Nakhon Province through the products of the “Heddi” brand; SDG 4: Equal education; and SDG 10: Reduce inequalities, such as the opening of the Disabled Student Support Service Unit at King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (DSSU@KMUTT); and SDG 12: Responsible consumption and production, such as products from the “Heddi” brand that use environmentally friendly raw materials.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chaowalit Limmaneevichitr, Vice President for Student and Learner Development, attended the exhibition and congratulated the winners. The seminar aimed to raise awareness of the important role of higher education in driving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by becoming part of teaching, research, and activities that can create changes in higher education institutions and develop students to become responsible citizens of society and the world in a sustainable way.
