Kochi University of Technology (KUT) is offering a year by year Doctoral scholarship program (maximum 3 years) with support in living expenses and travel costs for international applicants residing outside Japan.
Scholarship Term
1 Year, maximum of 3 years (extended year-by-year)
Scholarship Benefits
- Exemption from entrance examination fee, enrollment fee and yearly tuition fee
- Monthly support in living expenses, paid as salary for research project work.
*Applicants are obligated to pay some amount of taxes from this salary. - Initial living costs and initial travel expense is provided for international applicants living outside Japan.
Eligibility
- Must receive approval from “Project Leader” of preferred research project offered by KUT (Click here for list of Research Projects Offered)
- Is highly passionate and have the intention, adequate knowledge and research skill to work in the preferred research project.
- Must complete or will be completing a Master’s Degree (or equivalent degree indicating 18 years of education) at the time of enrollment
- Must be of 35 years or under
- To have an excellent academic record and strong bachelor’s and master’s degrees from reputable universities
- Must have a high English proficiency
Application Process
- Pre-Application Procedure (Request for approval of research project from Project Leader)
- Select your preferred research project from the list offered.
- Complete the Online Pre-Application Form and send your completed pre-application request to the Project Leader of your preferred research project for approval.*
- Formal Application Procedure (Received approval from Project Leader)
- Complete all required documents and submit documents to KUT by post. Documents must reach to KUT before indicated deadline.

Required Documents
- Copy/printed of email indicating that the Project Leader have approved of your selected research project
- Completed and signed pre-application request
- Original bachelor’s degree academic transcript (in English or Japanese)
- Original master’s degree certificate (in English or Japanese)
- A copy of the intending applicant’s master’s thesis in English
- Research Outline
- Two signed recommendation letters (Download)
- Original certificate of health in English or Japanese issued within 6 months (Download)
Preferred Documents (Please submit if you have the following)
- Rank certificate (in English or Japanese)
- Copies of past publications
- Certificate of English ability ( such as TOEFL, IELTS, CET, etc )
- Passport Copy
