From October 21-27, 2024, a delegation from King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), led by President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suvit Saetia, embarked on a highly productive visit to Taiwan, aimed at advancing academic and industry partnerships across key sectors. The delegation’s engagements emphasized KMUTT’s commitment to equipping students with industry-ready skills and fostering international collaboration.
KMUTT’s delegation participated in the Taiwan Printed Circuit Association (TPCA) Show 2024 on October 22-23 in Taipei, where the university represented Thailand as part of the Thailand Pavilion alongside other Thai universities and institutions. A pivotal moment was the signing ceremony between TPCA and Thai universities, including KMUTT, marking the official launch of a collaborative training program to meet the demand for skilled professionals in these sectors. In line with this initiative, KMUTT will host the Higher Talent Training Program on November 18, 2024, focusing on preparing students for key roles in the PCB and semiconductor industries.
In addition to the TPCA Show, KMUTT’s delegation visited two Taiwanese companies, namely Symtek Automation Asia and First Hi-tec Enterprise, both of which actively seek skilled engineers, aligning with KMUTT’s strengths in engineering and software development. The KMUTT team visited Lunghwa University of Science and Technology, where Thai students demonstrated semiconductor production techniques, including photoresist coating, lithography, and etching. Throughout the TPCA Show, KMUTT’s booth attracted significant interest from Taiwanese companies eager to expand into Thailand, with some expressing plans to hire over 100 engineers in 2025.
The visit continued with a series of academic engagements, beginning with a meeting at National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) on October 24, where KMUTT formalized an agreement for collaborative research and educational opportunities. The delegation explored NCHU’s cutting-edge labs in Civil, Chemical, and Mechanical Engineering, including the Advanced Manufacturing Laboratory, which provided insights into high-tech automation and next-generation industry tools.
Further expanding its academic alliances, the KMUTT team visited National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST) and Tunghai University (THU) on October 25. Discussions with NTUST focused on new collaborative avenues, including resource sharing for the Formula Student EV project and teaching opportunities for KMUTT professors in Taiwan. Meanwhile, an MOU signing with THU underscored shared goals in sustainable practices, as the delegation toured THU’s notable sites like the historic Luce Chapel and Smart Zero Park, which features a unique aquaponics system aligning with KMUTT’s vision for sustainable innovation.
Finally, on October 26, KMUTT’s delegation celebrated the 35th anniversary of National Chung Cheng University (CCU), a valued partner that has welcomed numerous KMUTT students for internships and collaborative research. At a seminar hosted by CCU on internationalization, KMUTT’s President and VP for Internationalization shared the university’s strategic initiatives, sparking insightful discussions on shared challenges and opportunities in global education with representatives from other institutions.
This visit to Taiwan underscores KMUTT’s commitment to producing industry-ready graduates and advancing Thailand’s role in global technology and research. Through these dynamic partnerships, KMUTT continues to open pathways for students, strengthen industry connections, and foster sustainable advancements across borders.
