2021 Global Korea Scholarship(GKS) for Exchange Students


Place: South Korea

Period: One Semester (September – December 2021) or Two semesters (September 2021 – June 2022)

Requirements:  

1) Undergraduate students who can take classes taught in either Korean or English- A student who obtained an average grade of more than 80% (based on a 100% grading scale) in the whole academic year. The student should have been studying at his or her university for more than 2 semesters.- Grade must be above 80% for the whole academic year.*If you study in Korea for 2 semesters, your first semester’s grade (in Korea) must be above 80%. Otherwise, you will fail to be GKS student for the next 2nd semester.

2) Official Development Assistance (ODA) nationality

3) Students should select more than three classes per semester from the list of courses taught in English including at least one class related to Korea (Korean language, history, culture, etc)

Details of the Scholarship:

(* It can be changed due to the plan of National National Institute of International Education)

1) Living Expenses: 500,000 KRW/Month

2) Round-trip Airfare (Economy Class):

– fixed amount (support for roundtrip airfare does not depend on the amount of the plane ticket – a maximum airfare support is specified for each country – For example, students from USA can get a maximum airfare support of 1,500,000 won while students from Japan can receive only up to a total of 500,000 won regardless of the actual ticket price.)

– Students should return their home country within 30 days after exchange program finished.

3) Settlement Allowance: 200,000 KRW (One time)

4) Insurance Fee: about 40,000 KRW/Month5) Self quarantine fee: Due to Covid 19

Application Steps

STEP 1: Students fill in the application form.

-Consult your advisor about course registration. This is to make sure that the credits taken at the partner institutions can be accepted and transferred back to KMUTT.

-Submit Online Application Form, and prepare following required documents.

  • Student photo
  • Courses plan to register at KMUTT partner institutions. The course plan form:  http://bitly.ws/9oIv (<– Click)
  • Statement of Purpose
  • Recommendation Letter from Academic Advisor
  • Recommendation Letter from Head of Department
  • An official transcript
  • English language proficiency test result
  • Medical Certificate
  • A copy of passport
  • Curriculum Vitae/ Resume

STEP 2 Nomination

-After checking the applications and making sure that each applicant is eligible, the International Affairs Office will contact each student’s Faculty /School and make sure that they are approved by their Faculty /School.

*IA Office will not be able to let applicants join the program without their Faculty /School’s approval.

STEP 3: Interview

IA Office will select, interview, and nominate successful candidates to the partner institutions for their final consideration.

STEP 4: Announcement of Interview results

IA Office will notify the interview result to the successful applicants and their Faculty/School.

Due date of application submission to IA: Monday 17 May 2021 before 12.00 hrs. (noon)

Interview Date: Monday 24 May 2021 (Afternoon Session)
