KMUTT and Shimadzu (Asia Pacific) Pte. Ltd. have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on “Pioneering Sustainable Innovation: Green Tech Commitment for the Well-being of Mankind”.

King Mongkut University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Shimadzu (Asia Pacific) Pte. Ltd., the Asia Pacific, regional office of Shimadzu Corporation-Japan, a global manufacturer of scientific instruments and engineering testing equipment. The MoU is titled “Pioneering Sustainable Innovation: Green Tech Commitment for the Well-being of Mankind”, aiming to tackle global challenges such as energy, environment, and climate change.

The MoU was signed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suvit Saetia, President of KMUTT, and  Mr. Prem Anand, Managing Director & Corporate Officer of Shimadzu (Asia Pacific) Pte. Ltd. Dr. Kanyawim Kirtikara, Senior Vice President for Research and Innovation at KMUTT, and Mr. Yasunori Yamamoto, President & CEO of Shimadzu Corporation-Japan, witnessed the signing. Mr. Phoosak Hirunyatrakul, Managing Director of Bara Scientific Co., Ltd., the sole distributor of Shimadzu’s scientific instruments and engineering testing equipment in Thailand, also attended the ceremony. The ceremony was held on July 9, 2024, at BRI 206 Conference Room, Bioprocess Research and Innovation Building (BRI), KMUTT (Bang Khun Thian).

The purpose of the MoU is to establish academic collaboration and support the development of testing and analysis technologies in environment, food, energy, and climate change, fostering collaboration between KMUTT and Shimadzu Corporation experts to advance Thai science and technology in response to global challenges, including developing methods for biopharmaceutical characterization, energy and environment analysis, climate change analysis and testing, and green technology, net-zero carbon, and carbon neutrality analysis.

This MoU marks the beginning of a new collaboration that will further strengthen the partnership between KMUTT, Shimadzu (Asia Pacific) Pte Ltd., and Bara Scientific Co., Ltd. since 2021. They achieved significant results. KMUTT has received academic support in technology transfer, personnel development, and joint research with Shimadzu. Furthermore, in 2023, the Biopharmaceutical Characterization Laboratory (BPCL), KMUTT, was selected as one of the World Lab Network partners during the Shimadzu 9th Summit 2023 in Singapore.
