9ᵗʰ International Conference on Sustainable Energy and Environment (SEE 2024): Securing a Sustainable Net-Zero Future Now

The Joint Graduate School of Energy and Environment (JGSEE-CEE), in collaboration with its consortium partners and Kyoto University, celebrated the 20th anniversary of the International Conference on Sustainable Energy and Environment (SEE 2024). Held under the theme “Securing a Sustainable Net-Zero Future Now,” this milestone event took place from 18 to 20 December 2024 at the Hilton Millennium Bangkok, Thailand. His Excellency Dr. Weerawat Chantanakome, Senior Counsel on Energy Policy, Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA); and Special Counsellor on Energy, Ministry of Energy, Thailand, inaugurated the conference with a keynote address on “Securing a Sustainable and Affordable Energy Transition for a Net-Zero Future in Thailand.”

Over 200 participants from Asia, Europe, and North America attended the three-day event, which featured more than 80 scientific contributions across 19 technical sessions. These sessions tackled pivotal topics, including Advanced Energy Systems, Bioenergy, Circular Economy, Decarbonization, Climate Science, and Future Technologies.

Special sessions offered expert-led discussions on urgent challenges such as the challenges of plastic waste management, climate change mitigation through soil carbon sequestration, and pathways to carbon neutrality and sustainability of food, feed, and fuel through BCG using life cycle thinking.
The conference also featured nine prominent keynote speakers across 3 plenary sessions. The sessions explored themes such as: (1) Innovative Energy Technologies and Strategies for Decarbonization and Sustainability, (2) Pathways to a Net-Zero Future: Integrating Green Jobs, Sustainable Consumption, and Circular Economy Perspectives, and (3) Innovative Materials and Energy Pathways for a Sustainable Net-Zero Future.

One of the highlights of the conference was a panel discussion held on 18 December, which focused on the critical role of green skills in driving sustainable development and paving the path toward a net-zero carbon economy. This session featured valuable contributions from JGSEE alumni, who shared their professional insights and real-world experiences. Their expertise underscored the importance of cultivating green skills to address the pressing challenges of our time and demonstrated the significant impact JGSEE alumni continue to have in advancing sustainable energy and environmental solutions in Thailand and globally.

An exhibition showcased the achievements of JGSEE’s laboratories, alumni, and research partners, further celebrating the conference’s legacy in fostering sustainable energy and environmental innovation.
