As Robotics, Automation, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) continue to transform industries and everyday life, developing skilled professionals and impactful innovations has become essential for national competitiveness. From manufacturing and healthcare to logistics and smart services, these technologies are shaping the future economy and society.
To address Thailand’s need for robotics and automation talent, Assoc. Prof. Djitt Laowattana, Ph.D. founded the Institute of Field Robotics (FIBO) at King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) in 1995 under the vision of being “A Cradle of Future Leaders in Robotics.”
Today, FIBO is Thailand’s first and only faculty-level institute dedicated to Robotics and Automation, offering bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree programs. Through hands-on, outcome-based education, FIBO develops graduates who are highly sought after by industry and government sectors. Beyond education, FIBO drives innovation through more than 300 research and development projects that support industries such as manufacturing, energy, logistics, healthcare, education, and services. Under the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Supachai Vongbunyong, Ph.D., FIBO is advancing its vision to become a leading robotics institute in ASEAN while expanding robotics and AI education networks to schools nationwide, helping prepare the next generation of innovators and strengthening Thailand’s future innovation capacity.
