Bangkok, Thailand — King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) welcomed a high‑level delegation from Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), headed by Professor Wen Wang FREng, Vice Principal for Science and Engineering and Executive Dean for Science and Engineering, Faculty of Science and Engineering, and Professor Alex Clark, Dean for International, Faculty of Science and Engineering, strengthening the partnership and advancing ongoing collaboration in transnational education (TNE), double degree programmes, and joint research initiatives. The visit marks a significant milestone following the successful receipt of the UK–Thailand TNE Exploratory Grant 2025, supported by the British Council in partnership with the Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, which facilitates the development of joint academic programmes between the two universities. Since QMUL’s visit to KMUTT on 31 March 2025, the partnership has made substantial progress toward establishing TNE initiatives, including the development of new programmes in Data and AI Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics and Electrical Engineering, and Automation Engineering.
During the two-day visit, the delegation was warmly welcomed by KMUTT executives, including Prof. Emeritus Dr. Yongyuth Yuthavong, Chairman of the University Council, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suvit Saetia, President of KMUTT, who praised the notable advancements achieved since early discussions. This was followed by detailed exchanges between KMUTT and QMUL leadership on curriculum design, academic alignment, operational planning, and presentations of each institution’s research strengths to identify opportunities for future joint projects. On 22 January, further in-depth meetings were held with KMUTT’s Faculty of Engineering to discuss programme implementation in Data and AI Engineering, Electronics and Electrical Engineering, and Automation Engineering ahead of a reciprocal visit to QMUTT in March 2026. The delegation also visited the Faculty of Engineering and the Institute of Field Robotics (FIBO) as part of a campus tour to gain a deeper understanding of KMUTT’s academic environment, facilities, and technology-driven learning ecosystem.
A key component of the visit included a joint meeting on 21 January 2026 with Thailand’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation (MHESI) to review regulatory requirements essential for launching the TNE programmes. The session was chaired by Professor Dr. Supachai Pathumnakul, Permanent Secretary, and Dr. Punpermsak Aruni, Deputy Permanent Secretary. Both institutions were represented by distinguished academic and administrative leaders throughout the engagement.
The visit marks an important step forward in creating high‑impact UK–Thailand education pathways and strengthening research networks that will benefit future generations of engineering and technology students.
