Contamination of emerging-pathogenic-enveloped viruses i.e. SARS-CoV-2, a causative agent of COVID-19 and Monkeypox virus, in drinking water sources, has raised a concern among drinking water consumer. Recently, data on removal efficiency of the viruses in drinking water treatment process is still limited. In this study, KMUTT\u2019s researchers investigated the removal efficiencies and mechanisms of model viruses, as a surrogate of pathogenic-enveloped viruses, and SARS-CoV-2 in the coagulation process, which is an important treatment technique applying for suspended solid removal in drinking water treatment process. Researchers found that the coagulation process efficiently removed both model viruses and SARS-CoV-2 from water and there were 2 main removal mechanisms including damage on lipid envelope and sorption onto clay flocs followed by sedimentation. Results of this study suggest that the coagulation process has a high potential, to deal with future threat viruses contaminating drinking water sources and can help producing safe drinking water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
