Institute for Scientific and Technological Research and Services (ISTRS)
1. History

Institute for Scientific and Technological Research and Services (ISTRS), KMUTT was initially established in July 2, 1981. It was, at that time, known as Research Laboratory and Development Center under the Faculty of Engineering. The Center is aimed to be a central unit for faculty and researchers inside University to contribute academic services and research output to government and private sectors. No sooner than the year of 1997, after the Sixth Higher Education Development Plan of Thailand had been publicly proclaimed, the Center was formally constituted as “Institute for Scientific and Technological Research and Services (ISTRS)” It was legally approved with a Faculty status and declared in Royal Gazette, dated May 21, 1997 with a mission to unite many research units and various kinds project in University into one institute. After that, the former Research Laboratory and Development Center was dissolved, human resources and ongoing tasks were eventually transferred to ISTRS. Its primary objective is expected to be a resource center for conducting research work, development and engineering, including interdisciplinary technology transfer, competitive competency enhancement of the government and private sectors in science and technology fields of knowledge.
