Science Technology and Innovation Policy Institute (STIPI)/KMUTT organised the series of STIPI Forum at the Knowledge Exchange (KX) Building, KMUTT, Bangkok, Thailand. The forum aims to provide knowledge and share experiences on STI policy among key public and private stakeholders.

On 10 August 2018, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christoph Menke from Trier University of Applied Sciences, Germany gave a talk on ASEAN’s Energy Future: Challenges and Opportunities in the New Energy World” with special focus on Thailand. There were 30 participants from public and private sectors joining this forum.

For years, the global energy landscape has positively shifted to renewable technology investment due to the rise of disruptive energy technologies and their impact on cost reduction. Huge government fund and support were brought into play to promote solar and wind energy sectors. However, the situation in ASEAN countries are quite unmoved and still locked in the conventional energy sources. Will ASEAN countries be missing the train? What should be the new business models in renewable energy businesses that could trigger the changes in ASEAN context?
