PTIT Awards

The Petroleum Institute of Thailand's 2000-2001 PTIT Awards ceremony was held at the Imperial Queen's Park Hotel on February 23, 2001 and Prof. Kamthon Sindhuvanon presided over this event. Awards were granted to individuals in public and private sectors who worked hard and effectively for best results. Two KMUTT's staffs, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aphichai Thedthienwong and Ms. Pensri Limwattanaporn, were awarded in this ceremony. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aphichai, faculty of Chemical Engineering Practice School, received the PTIT Fellow Award and Ms. Pensri, researcher of Maintenance Technology Center, received the PTIT Scholar Award.

Truffle Peeling Machine was presented in "Knon Thai Wanni"

On February 1, 2001, Ms. Thitipon Charoenyot, reporter of the Thai TV channel 7, interviewed Assist. Prof. Dr. Surachet Chutima and his colleagues about their truffle peeling machine, at Mechanical Engineering Department, Engineering School, KMUTT. This interview would be presented in "Khon Thai Wanni" program, Thai TV Channel 7.

The truffle peeling machine can peel 1,125 truffles per hour or about 125 kilograms per day (8 work- hours /day). The operation of the machine is as follows. First, a truffle is placed on a feeder. Then, the feeder pushes the truffle into the container of a conveyer to which a spring holder is attached. After that, it is conveyed through cutters, which cut its top and bottom respectively. It is then moved to the peeling spot and is pushed into ring cutting blades, which can produce tube-shaped peeled truffles in the same size.

Solar water heater was presented in "Withi Anakot"

On February 2, 2001, reporters of "Withi Anakot", a program of UBC 8, leaded by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chaiwat Khupratakul interviewed Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jongjit Hiranlabh, dean of Energy and Material School, KMUTT about the inexpensive solar water heater for households.

The solar heater is made from PVC pipes designed for collecting solar to heat water in the pipes. This invention interests a lot of people and KMUTT has opened a training course for persons who want to produce it. To date, two groups have been trained.
