| Purpose |
| The Hitachi Research Fellowship Program aims to provide scholars and researchers in Asian countries with opportunities to conduct cooperative research in the field of science and engineering at Japanese university or research institute, for a much more diversified and consistent collaboration/cooperation in the future. |
| Eligibility |
1. Applicants must hold Ph.D. degree.
2. Applicants must have firm position or profession in university.
3. Applicants should be less than 45 years of age. |

| The fellowship grantee is free to carry out his/her research at any university or research
institute in Japan, subject to the approval of the professor at the host university/institute. |
| Allowances |
1. Travel expenses
Economy class round-trip air fare between your country and Japan and travel expenses between airport in Japan and grantee's research affiliation.
2. Monthly allowance 270,000 Yen a month
3. Other allowances
(A) Research travel allowance: 100,000 Yen
(B) Research allowance: 40,000 Yen
(C) Housing allowance: 100,000 Yen a month max.
(D) Enrollment and advisor fee: 50,000 Yen a month max.

| Application |
Selection of grantee is done once a year. Those qualified applicants who were recommended by the university are requested to submit following application documents to the Foundation. All documents must be typewritten in English.
- Two copies of completed application form prescribed by the Foundation.
- A description of proposed research plan which includes detailed information on the purpose, methodology and content of the research, and the schedule of the research.
Research plan must be discussed in detail with the host university/institute before application.
- 3. Report(s) of what the applicant consider to be his/her most important publications).
- Letter of recommendation from the applicant's supervisor testifying to academic ability and achievements..
- A letter from the host scientist and/or head of host university/institute confirming the availability of research facilities and materials.

| Selection |
- Applications will be examined by the Selection Committee of the Foundation on the basis of academic value and degree of perfection of the proposed research plan.
- Applicants will be interviewed in your university or in Japan by the members of the Selection Committee.
- After the screening, the result will be sent to you.
- Successful applicant for Hitachi Fellowship is requested to come to Japan before the date set by the host university/institute in Japan.

| Agreement |
- The Fellowship can not be extended.
- During the term of the Fellowship, the grantee must stay in Japan.
- Grantee is expected to devote full time to his/her research during the term of the Fellowship, and so may not accept any employment, with or without remuneration, unless such employment has been specifically approved by the Foundation.
- Grantee should not accept other major grants during the term of Hitachi Fellowship.
- The Foundation may withdraw this Fellowship and terminate payments if it judges that the foregoing terms and conditions are not observed in good faith.
- Grantee is required to submit to the Foundation, two weeks prior to departure from Japan, a report of research and activities. Interim report on the progress of the research is requested at the end of every two months.
- When his research is presented for publication or dissemination, the Foundation's Support should be acknowledged in an appropriate way.
- The Foundation would appreciate a copy of any such publication or offprint of any article that grantee has published.

| Purpose |
| Komai Fellowship Program was inaugurated under the auspices of late Mr. K. Komai, former chairman of the Hitachi Scholarship Foundation, to encourage academic interactions between Southeast Asian countries and Japan in the fields of social science and cultural science. In this program, fellowships are offered to those researchers affiliated to Southeast Asian universities who have keen interest in conducting the research on Japan such as Japanese culture, Japanese eco-nomy and Japanese industry. |
| Eligibility |
- Those staff members majoring social science and humanities at the universities in Southeast Asia who wish to conduct research or joint research on Japan with the Japanese counterpart are invited to sub-mit the required application documents.
- Research proposals must be related wholly or in substantial part to Japan. Applicants with substantial training and experience in other fields, who wish to increase their professional competence in some aspects of Japanese studies, are also eligible.

| Allowances |
1. Travel expenses

2. Maintenance allowance
Maintenance allowance will be provided in accordance with the Fellow's professional career.
(A) University professor: Daily maintenance of 18,000 Yen
(B) Assistant professor: Daily maintenance of 17,000 Yen
(C) Lecturer or researcher: Daily maintenance of 16,000 Yen
3. Other allowance
Research travel allowance of 100,000 Yen will be provided. The Fellow already in Japan will receive single return ticket. |

- Fellows may not hold another major grant concurrently with Komai Fellowship.
- Fellows are requested to submit to the Foundation a report of the research and other activities during the term of Fellowship.
