Faculty of Science : http://www.kmutt.ac.th/organization/Science/
Faculty of Science was founded at KMUTT during the high industrial growth
period to produce graduates with a strong background in pure science and
experiences in applied science or engineering in order to have high caliber
to work with engineers. In 1976, the Faculty of Science started recruiting
students in Department of Mathematics, and Department of Physics. Later,
Department of Chemistry and Department of Microbiology were opened in
1977 and 1982 respectively.
The Faculty also launched a master's program to produce researchers.
Starting with the field of Applied Mathematics in 1990 the programme was
expanded to include Industrial Chemistry and Physics in 1993, and Microbiology
in 1996.
Other than the Office of Dean and the four departments mentioned earlier,
the faculty also authorizes a Scientific Instruments Center for Standards
and Industry. This center was set up in 1986 as a center for research
and development of scientific instruments for education and services inside
and outside KMUTT. There are four departments and one center as follows
:
School of Energy and Materials : http://www.kmutt.ac.th/organization/Energy/
The School of Energy and Materials was officially established in 1979
to facilitate graduate education, research and development in energy technology
and related desciplines. The necessity to establish the School was felt
partly due to the oil crisis in the mid 1970's and partly due to the fact
that the country's energy consumption was increasing rather rapidly. Thailand
is not energy self-sufficient and imports place considerable strain on
the nation's resources, hampering development of the country as a whole.
Serious research and development on energy technology is an important
and logical step towards the amelioration of energy problems which continue
to mount.
There have been many developments and changes in Thailand during the
decades since the inception of the School. The structure of the country's
economy is under going continual and rapid change which has given rise
to new sets of needs and problems. The School has, therefore, expanded
and grown in response to the changing demands of the society. Several
additional programs have been introduced to help address and directly
respond to some of the important problems being faced by the country.
There are five programs at present :
- Energy Management Technology Program
- Energy Technology Program
- Environmental Technology Program
- Materials Technology Program
- Thermal Technology Program
