Thonburirom Park
Thonburirom Park is,in fact, the property
of the Bureau of Crown Property, but the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration
is renting the area by paying an annual rent. This park was formerly
an orchard and a field. During the government of Field Marshall Thanom
Kittikajorn, it was used for planting nursery trees so that they could
eventually be grown on the sidewalks of Bangkok or be sold to people.
In 1960, Mr. Chamnan Yuwabun, a municipal governor of Bangkok and a
municipal governor of Thonburi, had set up a plan to develop this land
by arranging a layout for a park. A road was constructed, a small canal
was dug, a bridge was made, and an office was built. At that time, this
place was called "Bangmod Nursery Tree Orchard"
Later in 1968, Praya Mahaysawan, the Municipal Governor of Thonburi,
had surveyed the area and decided that this land could be changed into
a recreational park for the citizens of Bangkok, so the nursery tree orchard
was converted into a public park. Plants were also sold and the park was
named "Thonburirom Park". The name is still used nowadays.
